Pain in the Neck? How to Handle Shaving Cuts and Nicks

Sometimes the best-laid plans go awry. Even if you use the safest possible shaving techniques, it is inevitable that, from time to time, you’ll still get a cut here and there. When that happens, make sure you are prepared.

What to Do If You Nick Yourself
Avoid shaving over that area again. If it’s a small cut, you can continue shaving the rest of your face and tend to the cut afterward. However, if you get a big cut, then you may need to take care of the bleeding right away.

Step 1: First, rinse the area with cool water to soothe the skin and help constrict any small, broken blood vessels.

Step 2: Apply pressure with a clean finger to help stop any bleeding. You can also apply a ripped piece of tissue paper to the cut to help your body form a clot.

If you frequently cut yourself, you may want to invest in a styptic pencil. These handy sticks contain alums, which are natural antiseptic compounds that can help stop bleeding. They commonly contain aluminum sulfate with trace elements of titanium and other minerals. You can pick up a styptic pencil at your local pharmacy or online retailer.

If you follow these tips, you can help prevent a little nick in the skin from becoming a big pain in the neck.
